Today, I was scrolling through Facebook absentmindedly, and a picture made me stop and look at it. It perfectly represented John 15:5: “I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me, you can do nothing.”
The picture shows two trees: ‘The thinner tree was cut years ago, and the big one has been holding and feeding it since then. Photo credits go to Rebecca Herbert – Environmental Journalist, Tired Earth.
This picture reminded me of how God said He is the vine, and we are the branches. Everything we need flows through Him into us. We often fight to do it our way and or don’t want to wait on Him to provide. We don’t understand His timing. The amazing fact that the bottom is gone and it is still alive shows God’s masterpiece of creation and helps us see that no matter how broken we are, He will wrap His loving arms around us and provide the love that we need to flourish for His purpose.
Today was Him reminding me that I am not supposed to do this life alone. I can’t, nor am I supposed to be able to carry the weight of all life on my own. I have been trying to maintain and push through, thinking that if I keep moving, I can make it. While I have prayed and asked God to help, I haven’t turned everything over to Him. I was collapsing under the pressure of it all. Then, this picture came up. It reminded me that God has it all worked out. I may not see it all yet, but I can trust Him to provide for my family. He is holding us, and He will never let us go.
So thankful for God’s loving grace that flows through us and provides us with everything we need.
