“Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress” is repeated four times in Psalm 107. I have heard from several pastors that if something is repeated, it is important. This verse is full of hope and promise.
Each time, the desperation led them to call out to the one who had been waiting for them to call. Isaiah 65:24 says, “Before they call, I will answer; while they are still speaking, I will hear.”
This verse is a promise from God that He will never leave us alone in our afflictions. He is our refuge and shield. All we need to do is call out to Him. God knows our hearts even if we can’t find the words.
Often, we let fear or shame keep us from calling out to the Lord. We wonder why he would help us. We did this to ourselves. Can I remind you that before we were born, Christ died for our sins. He knew exactly what we were going to do, and he demonstrated his love and forgiveness for us on that cross. That cross was our redemption. We don’t have to live in sin or fear. We have a Savior who has taken it all away. He died and rose again so that we can have Hope. He has overcome this world. We can too if we will just cry out to the Lord and let Him deliver us from our distress. Will you do that tonight?
It doesn’t matter what the distress is, God is ready and willing to help you through it. He is waiting for you to call upon Him.
